BEX Program Overview

The Building Excellence (BEX) capital program enables Seattle Public Schools to continue the construction of new school buildings and new additions and major renovations to existing buildings, ensuring every student a safe and productive learning environment.

Potential projects are selected using four important criteria:

  • Health, safety and security
  • Capacity
  • Building condition
  • Minimize disruption to students; maximize flexibility for program placement

Under Seattle Public Schools’ long-term levy plan, the district submits a capital levy request every three years. The capital levy requests alternate between the major six-year BEX requests, such as the current BEX IV program, and a smaller six-year Buildings, Technology and Academics (BTA) request, such as the BTA III levy that expires in 2016.
