The project provides new classrooms to replace portables that have been used for many years at the school. These portables have no restrooms or running water and were designed to be temporary. They are long past their useful life and have become very expensive to maintain. An excellent education includes access to good learning environments, and all of our students deserve to go to school in excellent facilities.
The addition will be two stories. We chose this design because we can add more classrooms on less land. This makes less impact on the green space and surface water runoff than if we had planned a one-story addition. It is also the design that the team determined was the best option for academic improvement. As part of the project, adjoining areas of the school will be renovated in order to connect them to the addition.
The project is being paid for as part of the Building Excellence in Education (BEX III) bond measure that was passed by voters in February 2007. The BEX III bond provides capital funds for improvements to help the school district meet the educational, health and safety needs of all students.
