School Design Team Meetings for the Redevelopment of the Former Denny Middle School Site

Denny October SDT Meeting

The SDT process allows volunteers from the school, parks, businesses and the surrounding neighborhood to attend meetings to develop the project needs and requirements for the Redevelopment of the former Denny Middle School site. The entire community is invited to attend the School Design Team meetings and voice their opinion and desires regarding the design and use of the former Denny Middle School site.

The first meeting of the School Design Team for the Redevelopment of the former Denny Middle School site took place on September 22nd with a repeat first meeting taking place on October 8th for parents neighbors and community members who were unable to attend the meeting on the 22nd. These first two meetings familiarized everyone with the school design team process to begin the process of deciding together the best use of the space. SDT Meetings will continue through December, 2008. To view a calendar of the upcoming meetings view the Chief Sealth/Denny Public Meetings calendar here. You may also download a copy of the SDT Meetings Schedule here.

Design Evaluations Presentation by Berger Partnership - Given at the February 9th, 2009 Denny SDT Meeting

For the February 9th, 2009 meeting, Jonathan Morley of the Berger Partnership gave a PowerPoint presentation of the design evaluation results, based on the evaluation, scoring and comments that were sumbitted by the SDT members at the last SDT meeting. The presentation included an overview and analysis of the current site, the three initial designs that were created by the SDT members, a summary of SDT members scoring of these designs and the resulting preferred Master Plan. Site grading was reviewed as well as the locations of existing trees. The presentation finished with an aerial view of the Master Plan in context with the surrounding neighborhood as well as a look ahead at the next design steps.

You can view the presentation in PDF form by clicking on the link below.

Design Presentation by Berger Partnership - Given at December 15th, 2008 SDT Meeting

As part of the December 15th, 2008 meeting, Jonathan Morley of the Berger Partnership gave a presentation to the SDT members, outlining the potential site plans based on group renderings and explained the dynamics of the site; including sun, views, slopes, etc. for placement of recreational areas and features.

Due to inclement weather, very few SDT members were able to see the presentation so we have asked Jonathan to video tape it to make it available for review here on the website. Some of the text may be unclear when viewing the video but Jonathan reads the content of each slide as he presents it.  The PowerPoint slideshow with audio presentation below provides an alternative way to view the presentation.

SDT Goals and Strategies Bubble Diagram

As part of the SDT process,  team members defined the goals and strategies for the redevelopment of the former Denny Middle Schol site and created a large bubble diagram to display the results. Due to the large size of the diagram, we are also making it available here in three PDFs.
